Strategic Habitat Planning

In partnership with the Great Basin Landscape Conservation Cooperative, Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) initiated the strategic habitat initiative process to develop and define clear and transparent priorities for the agency. This prioritization is focused on the key habitats of Nevada and threats that impact those habitats and tiers off of the Nevada State Wildlife Action Plan. The Strategic Habitat Framework identifies priority habitats for Nevada and the three NDOW regions, provides a framework for identifying priority threats for a project area, and outlines strategies for addressing threats. In addition to this document, NDOW is developing a geospatial tool to support project selection. This tool will identify areas of priority, incorporate existing data layers from partners, and be a flexible resource for NDOW staff and partners.
